Together We Make Sense Of Life

There's been a whole plum lotta dead meat under the bridge kids, but here we are, once and finally coming to you with a snatch of yet more good shit, soon to be emanating from Hamburger Tapes' upcoming Wooden Wives and Lee Harvey Oswalds split record Together We Make Sense Of Life, to be released June 16 in Fredericton at Gallery Connexion and June 18 in Saint John at Peppers Pub and the advent of 5 Seconds of Decision. Pretty good run on sentence, huh?

The tape finds both bands considerably broadening their palettes, as well as colaborating both musically and artisically. Album art was shared by both groups (pictured above), while each covered the other's music as well, with the Lee Harveys offering an endless raga of Wives proto-punk, and the Wives a frat rock rave-up of LHO drone.

While you'll have to wait for the tape to hear the covers, you can find previews of both bands' originals at their respective Bandcamp.com pages. In addition, watch that space for more music to come from Wooden Wives, reaching back through to three-fourths of the Wives' previous band The Organizers, plus other side and solo sounds.

Let's spell it all out then man, for the ol' Hamburger Together tape. For all yr Wooden Wives woes, visit woodenwives.bandcamp.com to hear a tune called I Don't Stand Talkin' In The Wind, named for The Duke's same indictment. Take yer baby by the hand kids and just live. For all yer Lee Harveys haberdashery, attend to thelhos.bandcamp.com for two tracks. Everything Is Blue is a Velvet chug, while Flower Show out smacks Black Lips.

You can also catch Halifax's Quivers at the Gallery Connexion show and Tune In Tokyo at the Peppers Pub 5 Seconds Of Decision launch, with tapes and more on sale at each.

Who'll pay reparations on my soul?

We have just lost a longtime countercultural force of nature in Gil Scott-Heron. One of the things 5 Seconds of Decision seeks to accomplish is a celebration of high and low culture, the purposeful and the carnivalesque, the inherent ironies sewn into the fabric of the maverick in our modern technological age. Gil Scott-Heron and others of his ilk emblazoned the landscape and created space for the rest of us, without which our worlds would be very different realities than they are today.

Idle hands are the devil's plaything kids, which is a nice thought in and of itself, but let us use those hands in shaping an unholy vessel with which provoke this Port City to production. Make your own reparations and join the ranks of our monthly electric spectacle, synthesis of music and art, soul shakedown bone rattling revival style... Amen Gil.

It takes 5 Seconds Of Decision...

Fuggedaboutit.

You all have Google these days, so I’ll let you commit your first participatory act as part of 5 Seconds of Decision/Summer Love-In 2 on your own. MC5 and The Grande Ballroom. Crass and Dial House. Pink Floyd and Tomorrow. Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol. The Situationist International. Agitprop. Dadaism.  Pop Art. Avant-Garde. Counter Culture. Happenings. Psychedelia. Pulp. Beat. Punk. Film. Art. Vice.

5 Seconds of Decision is a finite, ongoing music, art and multimedia presence in Saint John, anchored around a series of monthly live electric avant- rock & roll spectacles at Peppers Pub on the Market Square Boardwalk. The first of such shows takes place Saturday, June 18, and doubles as a release party for Wooden Wives and Fredericton’s Lee Harvey Oswalds' split record ‘Together We Make Sense Of Life’, on Hamburger Tapes, with guests Tune In Tokyo.

5 Seconds of Decision will be a distillation of 2008’s original 13 week Summer Love-In opus at Melvin’s Pub. Music will include a cross section of Maritime lo-fi and psychedelic oddities, noted below, and set to a backdrop of film and visual projections. Audio will be recorded and made available for download throughout the duration of the series. Stringing all this together will be anything from street art, print-making, comics and posters, to performances, recordings and installations, to anything else made possible by contributions from the sum of our parts.

Your headquarters will be right here at 5secondsofdecision.blogspot.com. You can also join the 5 Seconds of Decision group on Facebook, and ‘Like’ hosts Wooden Wives for updates. Invaluable contributions from CultureHub.Ca, Swagger Studio, Third Space Gallery and Local 107.3fm will manifest and make possible the above foolishness.

Participation in the goings-on surrounding 5 Seconds of Decision involves a bunch of bands, artists, dudes, dames and such, but most importantly, it signals that you folks in the audience control the true means of production. This is no tie-dyed cliché or schmoove fest, but rather seeks to provoke, subvert, create, and trust us, we will all be shakin’ our hips in the aisles when the call comes.

Brothers and sisters, it takes 5 Seconds of Decision and we wanna know, are you ready to testify?
